No to Mono and Mumps...

I took Hunter back in to the doctor today. Everybody had me freaked out that he had mumps. I was reassured that he didn't. And they ran a blood test to make sure he didn't have mono. Which he doesn't. His white blood cell count is getting better so the strep is going away. The swelling in his gland is going to take weeks to get better. His fever finally broke today.

So the moral of the story is OBEY the doctors orders. If he says keep them away from other kids for 24 hours, PLEASE DO!!!!!!! They say 24 hours for a reason, and it doesn't mean when you hurry up and get the 3rd dose of antibiotics in them they are ok. Your child may not have it too bad but the person you may infect could get it a lot worse!!! (not to mention the family members that you are also exposing in the process).

What I learned about my son...

While my son is sick, I learned:

• He is very polite. Pleases, thank yous and even no thank yous.


• He is very direct. He answers most questions with very few words.


• He is very considerate. He wants to help and politely tells us if he isn't able.





• He perfers obscure toys. We have emptied the toy box many times playing with toys that haven't seen the light of day on months.


• He has a great memory, yet a very short one. He has us looking for things he hasn't thought about in monthes and once we find it he can loose it in seconds, not remembering where he put it.

He is starting to get better but he still has a baseball for a gland and pretty uncomfortable.

Jacy was in yesterday for her 4 month appointment. She is 15.5 lbs, 2 lbs lighter then Hunter at 4 months. She got shots and is a little out of sorts but is doing well otherwise. I also scored a case of the formula gold! yeah!!!! Here are a few recent pictures. Hunter wanted to be a super hero like Steve on Blues clues today so be sure to check out my handy work...

Thoughtless Parents

There is nothing worse in the world then sick little kids. They seem to get hit hard (luckily they also seem to recover quickly) and they are scared because they don't know what is going on. So there is nothing worse then kids getting sicked when it could have been prevented.

My poor little guy has his first bout of strep. Yesterday morning he woke up with a fever, not real high, but a fever none the less. He seemed to be fine after motrin. But I noticed that he was favoring his neck. When I asked him to move it from side to side he did, so I figured he was just being a goof ball.

Then he layed down for a nap. After he got up he was kind of winey but I didn't think too much of it, then I took a look at his neck. It was so swollen he couldn't move his neck. Within an hour it looked like he swollowed a tennis ball. So off to urgent care we went. After a long but not as long as expected wait and a positive strep test later, we were on our way to WalGreens for perscription.

Now he is a three year old and it is that time of the year so I shouldn't be so surprised. But I firmly beleive he wouldn't be sick had not one but two moms at daycare followed the directions and kept thier kids home for the 24 hours after their kids were diagnosed. It makes me so mad to think that they infected more kids just so they didn't have to miss work.

That is just thoughtless as far as I am concerned, not only are you infecting other kids (and thier families) but when your kids are sick, they don't want the sitter they want thier mommies! Your kids should come first. Unfortunately not everyone thinks that and now my son is misserable.

Now I realize he could pick up strep anywhere and yes he could have gotten it before they were diagnosed (but I don't think so by the timing) but as a parent they should have known thier responsibility.
